The Albula Railway Museum in Bergün transports train enthusiasts and families alike back through the railway history of Graubünden. Some 600 exhibits bear witness to over a century of pioneering railway history, showing how people, the railway and the landscape all left their mark on each other. Pensioned-off station clocks, historical documents and building plans of the railway’s infrastructure bring alive the history and significance of the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage line between Thusis and Tirano.
The Railway Museum has plenty of experiences and attractions for both young and old, as children and railway enthusiasts all love to try their hand at operating the Crocodile locomotive driving simulator, while serious fans and casual visitors alike admire the model workshop or gather to enjoy the interactive experience or exhibition.
Those wishing to delve deeper into the history of the line can follow the Albula Railway Experience Walk. Running from Bergün to Preda, it shows what the original Swiss railway pioneers faced, in the shape of the imposing mountains and rushing wild streams that they tackled when building the impressive structures that still mark the route.
